I met Meghan & Dom back at the end of 2012 when we got together on a chilly winter afternoon to shoot their engagement photos in Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park. Back then, we postholed our way up to 10,000 feet through knee deep snow and and blasting icy wind to a lookout over the Continental Divide, and somehow, despite my hands freezing to immobile claws, we kept each other laughing. I knew I’d have a good time shooting their wedding at the Donovan Pavilion in Vail, and I was not mistaken.

Meghan got ready at the Vail Cascade hotel with her closest friends and family, while Dom got ready with the guys at a nearby condo. Thanks to fellow photographer Kent Meireis for helping me out and shooting the guys that morning. He got some nice stuff.

I always enjoy shooting at the Cascade because the lawn out back makes a great backdrop for family portraits. It’s right on the side of the bike path, but the trees are really colorful and it’s right next to the Vail Creek. It’s only a quick few minutes to get over to Donovan from there, which is super convenient.

The ceremony was absolutely gorgeous, with pretty spring light filtering through the trees, and we had a really nice couples portrait session on the edge of the creek, only a few feet from the pavilion’s back patio.
