Figured I’d get caught up with this gorgeous winter wedding from Della Terra up here in Estes Park. Courtney and Jeff came from bone dry California and were hoping for a winter wonderland. They got it — the snow came down hard. I was worried for a little while that some of their guests weren’t going to make it, but everyone was on time and the day unfolded perfectly.
Estes doesn’t get this kind of snowfall that often, but a few times a year we get totally dumped on. These are my favorite days, when the snow is so thick and the trees are so blanketed that the world is quiet, and the only thing you can hear if you concentrate and imagine is the sound of each snowflake hitting the ground. It’s sublime.
The wedding was inside Della Terra’s ballroom, but Courtney and Jeff decided to keep the doors open partly for a cleaner background in the photos and partly because they wanted to bring a little of this winter wonderland inside with them. The cold air flowed into the room and brought with it a little bit of winter magic.
Della Terra has maybe 100 pendant lights hanging from the ceiling, which glow in the evenings. It’s particularly pretty during winter weddings, when sun sets and the cold blue dusk light gets darker and more intense. Those pendants just seem to light up the entire world.
Anyway, congrats to Courtney and Jeff!! Super psyched for you and so happy to shoot your big day in snowy Estes Park, Colorado!
