Playa del Carmen wedding photographers

I appreciate you stopping by! I’m a wedding photographer for Playa del Carmen events, and I hope you find these pages interesting and useful. I photograph in a journalistic style and my studio has won more than 4 dozen international photograph awards.

Playa del Carmen weddings are a little different than those in Cancun since the town is a mix between its big resort neighbors in one direction (Cancun) and its tinier boutique neighbor in the other (Tulum). There are smaller hotels in Playa del Carmen, and it’s got a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. It’s home to a few of the most romantic hotels in the world: The Banyan Tree Mayakoba and Secrets Maroma Beach. It’s also where the ferry terminal is so you can head out to Cozumel fairly easily, or visit the upscale Playacar neighborhood. The trendy and hip Quint Avenida, a cobblestone street without cars though the city center, is populated with fun bars and clubs, great restaurants, and lots of tequila shops. The street is the hub of the city. One thing that’s cool about Playa del Carmen is you get a mix of all-inclusive resorts and boutique hotels, but you also get the opportunity to get off the property and have easy access to some fun bars and nightlife. These, of course, make a fun addition to your wedding photography collection.

Like the rest of the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen and its neighboring Playacar community can suffer from inclimate weather – so plan accordingly. It’s best to avoid the heat of June and July, and the risk of hurricanes from August to November. The best time to get married is January to March, where the weather will be just about perfect every day.

When I photograph weddings here, I love bringing along my underwater camera housing. I know a bunch of super cool cenote parks to visit, where we can make some amazing trash the dress sessions underground.

Playa del Carmen wedding venues

Here are some top places to get married that we recommend: the El Dorado Maroma, Azul Fives, El Dorado Royale, Porto Playa Condo Hotel, Kool Beach Club and Porto Mayo. Other popular wedding venues in Playa del Carmen are Esencia, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Rosewood Mayakoba, Grand Velas All Suites, and The Tides Playa del Carmen, a wedding photographers dream. Also consider Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya, Royal Hideaway, Maroma Resort and Spa, Casitas Royal, BlueBay Grand Esmeralda, and the Hacienda Tres Rios. Also check out Secrets Maroma Beach, Grand Coco Bay, the Valentin Imperial Maya, El Taj Condo, and Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun. Some other truly gorgeous hotels include the Ocean Maya, Playacar Palace, Gran Porto Real Resort, The Fairmont Mayakoba, Occidental Grand XCaret, and the Blue Beach Hotel. In Playcar, check out Grand Sirenis Riviera and the Sandos Playacar.

What to do in Playa del Carmen

Go diving, head to a cenote and take a tour, go snorkeling, go dancing, head to Tulum and check out some reefs. Or you can hop on the ferry and take a day trip out to Cozumel, which is a blast in February during Carnival.

Dreamtime Verdict: Playa del Carmen

A cool mix of self-supported adventure and all-inclusive luxury. You can hang out on the resort property and be totally stoked, or you can venture into the city to take in the nightlife. Playa del Carmen is great for couples who are somewhat torn between wanting the luxuries and ease of an all-inclusive resort with the personalized feel of a boutique hotel area like Tulum.
